MEET NICK | APRIL WERUNMPLSER
“WeRunMPLSer of the Month” is a series we write to introduce the faces that make WeRunMPLS so special. Our core is community; it was the motivation behind starting WeRunMPLS, is the foundation for every time we meet and is what guides all our decisions. Hope you enjoy!
Tell us your name + how you found out about WeRunMPLS.
I’m Nick Flood – My friend and I found out about WeRunMPLS through the “find a running club” feature on www.minneapolisrunning.com. WeRunMPLS is the first club listed!
Where is your favorite place to run?
There are some great spots to run in the city, but running around the lake up at my cabin is tough to beat, especially on hot days when you can jump in the water right after!
What’s been your favorite night of WeRunMPLS (so far!)?
There have been a lot of fun nights, but I’d say last summer’s wild card night at Lake Nokomis was a highlight! We had a big group that night and most people stuck around to eat afterward. I’m told the WeRunMPLS birthday bashes are always great though, so my answer to this question may soon change!
Tell us your top 5 interests.
All of these will sound like cliché guy answers but they really are the things I spend most of my time doing.
My family and friends…especially the ten little rug-rats that have joined the fam in the last 6 years. Of all the names people call me, “Uncle Nicky” is by far my favorite.
Sports…of all kinds. Favorites to play/do are basketball and skiing…favorites to watch are football, hockey and motocross.
Music, and in particular live music…nothing better than an outdoor concert in the summertime. Bucket-list venues are Red Rocks and The Gorge, hopefully seeing some good country or blues/rock.
Anything with an engine….love going to classic car shows (when I retire I hope to restore one from top to bottom), and taking motorcycles rides is my favorite way to relax and recharge.
Photography…this is a newer hobby of mine, but it’s pretty addicting.
What’s your favorite thing about WeRunMPLS?
The sense of community for sure…everyone is great, and though we all come there to run the camaraderie seems to be of equal draw to everyone.
Favorite running quote?
“For no particular reason, I just kept on going…I just felt like running.” – Forest Gump
One random fact everyone should know about you.
I think a few WeRunMPLSers know this about me, but the thing most are surprised to learn is that I’m the oldest of 8. The rest of my family is huge as well….100+ and counting.
Anything we didn't cover?
Stupid human tricks of course….mine are that I can sustain a wheel-chair wheelie for as long as I want, I can see 3D magic eye images almost instantly and I can say the alphabet backwards in less than 15 seconds. :)
