MEET JON | OCTOBER WERUNMPLSER
“WeRunMPLSer of the Month” is a series we write to introduce the faces that make WeRunMPLS so special. Our core is community; it was the motivation behind starting WeRunMPLS, is the foundation for every time we meet and is what guides all our decisions. Hope you enjoy!
Tell us your name + how you found out about WeRunMPLS.
Jon Vick - aka: JV; aka: jonvick
Kaitlyn and I became friends when I worked at Trek and sponsored events owned by Lifetime Fitness, where Kaitlyn worked. Becoming friends with Kaitlyn and running with WeRunMPLS lasted - neither of those jobs did.
Where is your favorite place to run?
Anywhere there’s dirt! Or water, but preferably dirt.
What’s been your favorite night of WeRunMPLS (so far!)?
It was a random August weekend that I was coming home for the weekend, back from Madison, and I took an extra afternoon off work to get back in time for Thursday night with WeRunMPLS. It was a wild card week at Minnehaha Falls, and it was the run that made me a dedicated WeRunMPLSer for the long haul, even though I didn’t even live in MPLS at the time!
Tell us your top 5 interests.
Mountain Biking (and road biking, and cyclocross, and city riding). I’m a cyclist first, runner second – not sorry.
Live music - all music, but all the better when it’s experienced live.
Traveling - Whether by wheels or by air, the more places I go, the more places I realize I haven’t been.
Cooking - a perfect mix of science and art (or an imperfect mix, when I’m involved).
Mountains - They call me always. The only thing that holds MPLS back from actual perfection.
What’s your favorite thing about WeRunMPLS?
I love how inclusive it is. My first run with the group I was welcomed like I’d been running with the group from Day 1. I try to pass that along to everyone who joins us for the first time!
Favorite running quote?
“Log out, power down, and get that screen out of your face. Go outdoors, experience the world, right now. Unless it’s cold out... [Google the rest - this is a family website]” - Matthew Inman (The Oatmeal)
One random fact everyone should know about you.
I spent most of a decade traveling and working with people who are incredibly passionate about what they do. I’ve been to 48 states and 14 countries on three continents. The people I've met in my travels are still some of my best friends.
Anything we didn't cover?
I love MPLS - The more I travel, the more I love this city. It’s part of me, no matter where I go.
