“WeRunMPLSer of the Month” is a series we write to introduce the faces that make WeRunMPLS so special. Our core is community; it was the motivation behind starting WeRunMPLS, is the foundation for every time we meet and is what guides all our decisions. Hope you enjoy!

Tell us your name + how you found out about WeRunMPLS.

Hi, my name is John. I found about WeRunMPLS from a friend who said she was going to check it out on a Thursday about a year and a half ago. I’ve been coming ever since because it is a great group.

Where is your favorite place to run?

I like a variety in scenery so I don’t really have a favorite place. I regularly go to the MPLS lakes, the Mississippi River Road and for trails to Hyland Park, the Minnesota River Bottoms and the Superior Hiking Trail.

What’s been your favorite night of WeRunMPLS (so far!)?

My favorite night so far was the three year anniversary. It was funny trying to control the balloons in the wind while taking a picture. Having a beer at Bauhaus after the run and getting know people better was a good time. It’s interesting to have the variety of people who show up. You can meet someone new almost every time.

Tell us your top 5 interests.

Running and cooking are my symbiotic interests. Running allows me to eat more and eating fuels my running. Other interests are traveling, spending time at our cabin and hanging out with family.

What’s your favorite thing about WeRunMPLS?

My favorite thing is that the people are very friendly and there is always someone going your pace, whether you want to go fast or take it easy.

Favorite running quote?

Running allows me to set my mind free. Nothing seems impossible, nothing unattainable. – Kara Goucher

One random fact everyone should know about you.

I like beer and have homebrewed in the past. The variety of micro brews in MPLS and the WeRunMPLS Wild Card Weeks have made that a less important hobby. A unique fact is that I can make a rubber chicken out of a cloth napkin.
