“WeRunMPLSer of the Month” is a series we write to introduce the faces that make WeRunMPLS so special. Our core is community; it was the motivation behind starting WeRunMPLS, is the foundation for every time we meet and is what guides all our decisions. Hope you enjoy!

Tell us your name + how you found out about WeRunMPLS.

Hi, I’m Steve. I came across WeRunMPLS on a profile on Minneapolis Running’s website one Saturday morning while eating cereal and reading about local running. I saw the group had a run that very morning, so I rushed out the door. Because we were meeting so soon, it prevented me from having nervous thoughts about jumping into something with a bunch of people I didn’t know. These people are now my friends.

Where is your favorite place to run?

Stone Arch Bridge. The first few steps I set on the bridge, seeing the Guthrie and stadium, ruins at Mill City, downtown skyline and hearing sounds of the river, all of it makes me feel for that moment I’m the luckiest person alive.

What’s been your favorite night of WeRunMPLS (so far!)?

Favorite night will always be the next one. Getting to Five Watt knowing I have a group of friends there to run together and catch up is a great feeling. A past night that came to mind is the Wild Card Week at a local brewery where we played and won trivia as a team. That was a blast!

Tell us your top 5 interests.

  1. Chasing Andrew in a triathlon. We had a photo finish at Maple Grove Tri, except he was ahead of me, of course. Maybe marriage will slow him down.

  2. Coming up with new ways to get Kaitlyn and Dustin to let me dog sit Bentley.

  3. Seeing Tim at our weekly runs looking like he just woke up. I guess my friend's got a valid excuse as he works night shifts.

  4. Convincing Amanda that running Ragnar for two days with no sleep in a smelly van is an awesome idea.

  5. As much as I enjoy 1-4, not sure they are actual interests, but this last one is. Eating. I am known to have a big appetite. I’m not picky and haven’t come across any food I don’t like except for peas. I don’t like peas. They must have wronged me in a previous life.

What’s your favorite thing about WeRunMPLS?

How simple and perfect WeRunMPLS is in its goals of getting new and old friends from all walks of life to come together and share our passion of running and community.

Favorite running quote?

“Aim high. This sport is a ton about mental toughness, execution (routine, routine), and belief in yourself. Most of us don't have much talent, but we work hard and believe in the training.” - Ethan Komoroski

One random fact everyone should know about you.

See interest #5. I also rarely watch sports, but I follow by reading about it - the teams, scores, stats and latest trade rumors. It’s more of a cultural phenomenon to me.

Anything we didn't cover?

Hum, nothing that running together or some post run Five Watt and Pat’s Tap hang out wouldn’t uncover.
