2,016 MILES IN 2016

Hey friends! Kaitlyn here. I’ve been thinking about goals and things I want to do in 2016 and most of them revolve around my favorite sport: running. So, I’ve signed up for a challenge: 2,016 miles in 2016. The challenge is called Run the Year 2016 + has well-known contributors, an online dashboard and more to help you along the way. I’m getting pretty excited about it!

It’s a lot. It might be a little crazy. It will certainly take dedication. But here’s why I decided to take it on:

  1. Be healthier. I consider myself a fairly healthy person. I work out often, I log the miles when I’m in training. I find races to motivate me. I eat fairly healthy (minus my vice: SUGAR). I drink a lot of water. I care about my sleep. But committing to this many miles in a year certainly requires dedication in other areas, and I’m excited to see how becoming more dedicated in this area of my life will push me in those other areas as well.
  2. Become a better leader. As a leader of WeRunMPLS, I believe it’s important to be committed to what I’ve set out to do, outside the group too. Building community is important to me, but to lead and encourage others it’s important to set my own goals and work towards them.
  3. Become a stronger athlete. 2,016 miles will definitely make me stronger. I hope this challenge makes me faster, makes me smarter and allows me to take on all the adventures that come my way.
  4. Take on a new challenge. Challenging yourself is important. It eliminates the opportunity to become stagnant or fall into a rut. I like to take on new challenges to see what I can do, see where they take me and find out what I’m really made of. Last year I challenged myself with a mountainous feat through the Rockies. I’m excited to see where these 2,016 miles take me in the new year.
