#PRAISETHELOUD 2015

I spend summers finding any excuse to get outside. I prioritize running but I also love mixing it up, especially when I’m not in training mode for a race. Sunny days are spent outside soaking in the mornings running, catching a breeze on my bike, finding Downward Dog in the parks with friends, sunning near a pool, walking a lake with an ice cream cone or dancing the night away at music festivals. This year you can find Jen and myself getting our dance on at Basilica Block Party! BBP is July 10-11 and we’re heading to the stages on Friday night.

I ditch my headphones the minute I step off a treadmill (the sounds of the nature are my summer soundtrack) but I’m using this playlist to pump myself during other workouts. Here are my faves and how I’m using them this summer:

Everything Is Alright | Motion City Soundtrack
Talk about throwback: anything Motion City Soundtrack brings back all sorts of memories for me. I was a steady concert-goer for many years and bands like Motion City Soundtrack were my jam. I’ve been blasting this one during ab workouts (and then having a little solo dance party afterwards).

Out Of My League – Story of the Running Wolf Remix | Fitz and the Tantrums
I‘m a Fitz and the Tantrums fan – I first saw them at BBP a handful of years ago. Second, all my strength is in my legs – my upper body is wimpy. I like using this track to help me pace push-ups. It keeps me motivated to stay with the beat, and by the time I’m done with the song I’m also so over my push-ups and ready to move on to the next thing.

(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To | Weezer
Upbeat, fast tempo, easy to sing along to – this track plays anytime I need a kick in the pants to get going. Run up that hill, get my squats in, dance around my apartment, sing at the top of my lungs. You know, whatever.

1,000 Ships | Rachel Platten
1,000 Ships is a good one to help me pace myself when I’m trying to run a little more steadily. Plus, I love her voice and the keys so I get a little lost in the music and time passes quickly. Sometimes I even sneak my earbuds with me on a run just for this song.

Heartbeat | Mat Kearney
Also a Mat Kearney fan. This jam has a great beat to use as the background for different types of exercises. Plus, it’s one I turn up in the car and do a little car dancing to while stuck in traffic (tell me you do that, too).
