MEET KJERSTEN | FEBRUARY WERUNMPLSER
“WeRunMPLSer of the Month” is a monthly series we write to introduce the faces that make WeRunMPLS so special. We say this a lot – our core is community; it was the motivation behind starting WeRunMPLS, is the foundation for our meet ups and is what guides all our decisions. Hope you enjoy!
Meet Kjersten. Kjer and Kaitlyn went to high school together and Kjer joined WeRunMPLS in 2015. She took on some awesome running challenges in 2015, including running her first marathon, and we’re excited to see what 2016 holds for her! Run with us to meet Kjer + other WeRunMPLSers, and read on to hear more about her and why she’s part of WeRunMPLS.
Tell us your name + how you found out about WeRunMPLS.
Kjersten. I heard about WeRunMPLS through Kaitlyn. We went to high school together and I started seeing her posting things on Facebook about the group. I decided to give it a try and have loved getting to run with others and check out fun new places in the city.
Where is your favorite place to run?
My favorite place to run is pretty much anywhere outside. I love exploring the world on foot! While training last fall, I ran 18 miles from Crystal all the way to Lake Calhoun on trails and was amazed at the amazing running routes Minnesota has. I noticed many more things while running than I ever do when driving; that is one of the main reasons I enjoy running – I’m so much more aware of my surroundings.
What’s been your favorite night of WeRunMPLS (so far!)?
My favorite night of WeRunMPLS was at Surly Brewery. It had been raining off and on all day but ended up clearing right before the run. The weather was perfect and we watched a beautiful sunset from the Witches Hat Tower. Returning to Surly for food, drinks and good company was a great way to end the evening!
Tell us your top 5 interests.
Spending time with friends and family.
Exploring new places, (most often this means trying out new restaurants)
What’s your favorite thing about WeRunMPLS?
My favorite thing about WeRunMPLS is meeting new people and getting to try new places and running routes in the cities! Everyone is so friendly and it’s fun to hang out with people who enjoy doing some of the same things as I do.
Favorite running quote?
My favorite quote isn’t necessarily a running quote, but I apply it to running among many other things in my life: “She believed she could, so she did.”
One random fact everyone should know about you.
I am kind of obsessed with socks. I have 3 drawers full of them, but still buy more in fun colors and patterns when I see them.
